The Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THIA) is a national organization representing travel insurers, brokers, underwriters, re-insurers, emergency assistance companies, air ambulance companies and allied services in the travel insurance field. Their mandate is to develop and promote voluntary standards of business conduct, professional and public education and advance issues relevant to travel health insurance providers.


Established in 1894, the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) is a voluntary not-for-profit association with member companies accounting for 99 percent of Canada’s life and health insurance business. The mission of CLHIA is to serve its members in areas of common interest, need or concern. Several of the key strategic objectives of the association include promoting a legislative and regulatory environment favourable to the business of its members, fostering sound and equitable principles in the conduct of the business of its members and informing members about domestic developments and promoting public policies that contribute to the betterment of the Canadian economy and society.


The General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) is an independent organization, created in 2002, with the sole purpose of helping Canadian consumers resolve disputes or concerns with their home, auto or business insurers. Their mission is to provide consumers of car, home and business insurance in Canada with a cost-free, independent and impartial process to resolve their complaints.
